In this module we combine three topics that are common to most film shoots: lifts, trucks and tools -- now, most people have not had much experience with this type of equipment prior to working in film production. Power tools and heavy machinery are often essential to our work but require proper training and experience.  Clearly there are potential hazards associated with the use of power tools and heavy machinery and the knowledge and safe practices of the operator are the critical element required to make the work safe.  Everyone working in production should be familiar with the hazards associated with this equipment, and understand the guidelines for safe use.

  • 18:49 video that highlights safety procedures for using lifts, trucks and power tools
  • Illustrated companion guide
  • Downloadable on-set reference guide

  • Safety procedures for using lifts such as scissor lifts, condors and aerial lifts
  • Liftgate safety
  • How to safely work around parked trucks
  • Safety guidelines for production vehicles when in motion
  • Tool safety
The videos are a big leap forward for contemporary classroom videos, utilizing clean greenscreen, working professionals and 16:9. The film is well-paced and will be a great addition to classroom instruction. It is designed and constructed in ways both interesting and accessible to student filmmakers. I hope to utilize the material in my classroom!”
